Early Christmas present | Announcement | Louisa, Va family photographer

Christmas came early for this adorable couple, and I couldn’t be more excited!!!

Brandy knew exactly how she wanted to announce her special news…….with all FOUR of her brothers in ‘guess who is pregnant’ How stinking cute, right?!?!?! And it happened right in her home town, and quite a drive from VA Beach. I am completely honored to capture this sweet moment and can’t wait to watch this baby bump grow. Congrats to y’all again!!!!

First family portraits | Adoption | Louisa, Va Family Photographer

This adorable family, on their family farm, and that gorgeous light!!!!

I have absolutely loved following and capturing this family’s special story. Lacey and Steven are huge inspirations to couples in our small town that have and are battling with conceiving. Lacey opened up recently about their struggles, and I love the support that she has received and how she is able to lift other couples up with hope with sharing their story.

They wished, hoped, and prayed for Jace….for FIVE years. This year Lacey and Steven received the blessing of adoption of this sweet, adorable, baby boy. I was able to capture their adoption announcement earlier this year, and it was announced in a slideshow to one of Lacey’s favorite songs, Overloaded. View itΒ here.

As the due date came quick, Lacey and I stayed in touch as she knew she wanted to capture their first family portraits soon after bringing this bundle of joy home. We planned the location, the time, and date. What I didn’t plan was to fall completely in love with this adorable chunky baby. He is PERFECT! And now their family is even more perfect with this addition.

Lacey shared her adoption story on Beauty and Lifestyle Magazine (view story here) and it is an inspiring story, but get your tissues out ladies.

Melinda & Maegan growing as a family l Personal

I have loved this year of getting close with Melinda again, as we had a strong friendship about 10 years ago and grew apart with me going to college and LIFE. She is a woman with a strong heart that has shown me that love is more than what I was taught and how I was raised. I’m proud to say that my mind is more open than ever in learning the difference in our thought processes, and this needs to be stated for many folks that may have wondering questions when it comes to same sex relationships.
Myself and Melinda were both kind of rebels at heart as younger versions of ourselves, which is probably why we got along so well. Some of those qualities are still true to today, as we are both hard working, independent women in our late 20’s and now 30 (she’s gonna hate me for that). And as most young folks we made some decisions in life that we look back on and think ‘what the hell was I thinking’……like tattoos (we won’t bring up name tattoos or the matching tattoo I got with not so great ‘friends’), going out……and getting married on a wim……….. (cough cough), all the while learning WHO we are as individuals.
Can you answer that question….who are you?
What defines you?
Does sexuality define a person? I don’t think it should. Now with that being said, that is NOT how I was raised to believe. I grew up in a very old fashioned, closed minded, stricter southern home. And in growing up and making my own decisions on how I view things and people in life I wish I was raised to be more open minded. I shouldn’t have spent my high school years and late teens thinking gay was WRONG or BAD, along with many other things. Going to college and meeting more open minded people really allowed me to view love as not just a man and a woman, but left many many questions that I was afraid to ask. Being with a woman is not my personal preference, but I don’t hold that choice again Melinda, her happiness is most important in my book. And who she loves shouldn’t matter the gender or color of their skin just because it is not MY preference.
I have asked Melinda why this is her choice…..and I LOVE her response that she tells many people.
“I love someone for their heart not their parts.”
Sit and think about that for a moment, shouldn’t we all love someone for their heart prior to anything else….
And I love LOVE, I live for wedding days and capturing happiness in couples, love stories which happens between two men, two women, and a man and woman. LOVE IS LOVE!!
My next question was probably a stupid question and I was on the fence about sharing it, BUT I’m sure a lot of people want to ask this: If you like girls why do you date girls that look like boys? (wasn’t being mean, but I really wanted to know)
“Because men are men. As a lesbian, I’m attracted to the parts and mind of a woman.I have a very hard time connecting on an emotional level with men. I can have friends that are dudes, but the truly falling in love with a man was tough, even though I thought I had a few times… Now that I am 100% comfortable with who I am, I realized, I just don’t relate to men in the same way. We don’t “click.” Another way to look at it –
It’s just a sexual preference, much like the way that some straight women prefer biker guys, or the way that some straight men prefer athletic women.
My sexual preference should affect someone no more than if you order ham and pineapple on your pizza and I like ham and mushrooms – if you aren’t sharing that Pizza with me – than why do you care?”

I have to give mad props where it is due. And it makes my heart so happy that Melinda is raising her children in an open minded world. She is very honest with them with her thoughts and feelings. WE do live in a small town where many pass quick judgement, and it’s NOT FAIR.
“I actually do not want my children to be gay – it isn’t an easy road to travel and there will always be someone there to tell them they are wrong or they shouldn’t feel that way… but I want them to be honest with themselves, no matter how they feel. Not just with their sexuality but who THEY are as a person. If they want to cover themselves in tattoos and then go to medical school, that is ok fine. If they want to run off to LA to chase dreams of being an actress, that is fine too… I will always always support my children in whatever and whoever they choose to be”
So to my parents, SHAME on you for embedding that such things were wrong. I’m glad I have rose above your teaching on me as a young Crystal.

Now scroll back to the top and tell me what you see in that image….
I see happiness, laughter, and love in which that image makes me smile, because I feel the happiness between those two people. It’s not just an image it’s a real moment captured……
For the rest of my life I want to see this world more open to LOVE in general. Be happy for you! And allow others to be happy for themselves as well. Stop passing judgement because there are questions that are unknown.
A family with open minded children
 Love looks good on you!
 Your happiness matters!!!
Keep walking to your future……because it’s bright!

Harrison Family l Louisa, Va Family Photographer

Nick contacted me early last year to surprise his beautiful wife with a family session. Now, months later we have finally caught up to do these, and I couldn’t have been more excited to spend an early morning with them right in the town of Louisa. They made the long trip from Winchester for the weekend to visit with friends and family, but this over cast morning was all mine!!
Luckily Nick’s brother, Dusty, is one of my bestest friends, so we conned him into coming as well.
Thank you Harrison’s for being so much fun during this whole session, I’m still laughing just looking over the images!!
See how excited he was to be there:
And our session turned into more of this than anything:
Per Dusty’s request….this happened…. HEHEHEHE
Now I know what you are thinking when you look at this next image….YES… that is Dusty….it’s weird maybe….but its a family inside joke….so of course we had to capture that πŸ™‚
True sibling love right there!!!
HA HA HA a favorite

Fun Sibling Session l Glen Allen, Va Family Photographer

As adults, it is very rare to get together with our siblings just for pictures. Honestly, this was a first for me…AND I LOVED IT!!! My first question was how did you talk everyone into this? (As I need pointers, because my brother always tells me ‘NO’) I think we should cherish every moment of our lives, and this session was beyond fun, and I know their parents will LOVE these.
Thank you all for being so much FUN!!!
I asked the boys to act natural as if I wasn’t there to take their pictures…..and this happens…..
 Starts telling a story …..so a man walks into….
With siblings this is guaranteed: You will have the ‘quiet one,’ ‘rebellious/ out of the box one,’ ‘goofy one,’ and the ‘fibber/ story teller.’
I’ll let y’all guess which ones are which πŸ™‚

Mr. De’Loach is Super Dad l Ashland, Va Family Photographer

Warren is a super dad! There is no explanation about that. Being a single parent is tough, but he has shown true strength and patience. He will do anything for his girls. He told me before they got here for the summer that he is their protector and he will do all he has to to protect them from this world.
For Father’s Day I surprised him with a wrapped gift to take with him out to AZ to get his two little pride and joys. Inside was a Super Dad shirt. To me that is what he is. πŸ™‚
It’s not very often you hear how awesome single dad’s are. I have a few friends that I can say are awesome single dads, and Warren falls into this category. Giving up a lot to spend every waking moment to make sure they are happy and having fun here in Va. Painting their finger nails. Playing pretty pretty princess. And singing Frozen and Beauty and the Beast in the car as loud as he can because that is what makes them happy.
You are an amazing Dad!!

I love a child’s laugh, but there is something about Gabby’s that just automatically puts a smile on my face.

The second part of Warren’s Father’s Day surprise was cute little girly super girl outfit to take pictures with his shirt. Huge thanks to Rooty Tutu’s for these awesome bedazzled shirts and tutus πŸ™‚

Don’t you love their bedazzled capes?!?!?

 tickle fight anyone?

Love the emotion in this image!!

And these are the faces I am used to πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I love how much fun they have together πŸ™‚

Breedlove Family River Mini l Louisa, Va Family Photographer

I absolutely adore this family. I remember being in first grade with Tracy in Ms. Robinson’s class, getting in trouble for talking to much, all the way to senior English in Ms. Steven’s where she kept talking about this man. And that man then, is this man now that still makes her so happy, and has given her two wonderful/ gorgeous girls, and he loves her to the moon and back. I love watching this family grow, capturing the girls grow, and capturing the love that still grows between Tracy and Will. Never stop being happy, because it looks great on all of y’all. πŸ™‚

 LOVE this!!
Thank you Will for making my childhood friend so incredibly happy!!
 Always hold her tight.
 Always laugh together πŸ™‚
And these gorgeous girls right here………melt my heart with their big blue eyes!!
Bella growing up way to fast.
How can you not love this little girl?!?!?
 EEEEKKKKK sister love!
And these smiles!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Sometimes its not just about the picture, it’s about the moment…
Just a few images to capture Bella’s forth year πŸ™‚

Zawodny Family l Glen Allen, Va Family Photographer

It was such a pleasure conversing back and forth with Emily weeks prior to this session. Getting to know about her and her little family was great, and that always makes it so exciting to meet a family for the first time. All I can say is, What a sweet sweet family!!!
Their session was on the morning of Father’s Day and John was all smiles, you can clearly tell how much joy Jake brings to their life. πŸ™‚
I absolutely LOVE mornings at Crump Park, it’s quiet and not crowded. This time of year is probably my favorite as well, as the wildflower field is in bloom. And this field makes if perfect for those summer time family portraits.
Jake didn’t know what to think of the flowers
 Super adorable family, right?!?!?
I love pictures where Dad is all smiles with his children!
Emily, you are GORGEOUS!!!! And Jake is such a cutie!!
 Perfection in black and white!!
Barefeet and coveralls on little boys melt my country girl heart!

High Family l Yorktown, Va Family Photographer

Today’s blog is all about family and love. And how could you not love a blue eyed cutie patootie little boy, RIGHT?!?!?! πŸ™‚
I begin talking to Kirsten about their family session a few weeks prior to their session date. As I had already planned to be in Yorktown during that holiday weekend for their and my friends, Joanna and Corey’s maternity session, so it could’ve have worked out more perfectly. Now, planning to be in Yorktown on a holiday weekend I now know to plan better. As it is normally a quiet town, not too much traffic. For this weekend it was CRAZY traffic. So with a little change of plans on location (really only 2-3 blocks from planned) it worked out perfect, plus I’m a sucker for old buildings and doors…..LOVE THEM.

From where we parked we had to walk a little bit, but that was fine because I got to learn more about this gorgeous family. Everyone knows I love LOVE, I love capturing love, and the love in this family is amazing. Something I can hope everyone in life can experience.

EEEEKKKKK love Dad’s face in this!!

Mommy love!

Look y’all I found my foot
Both hands!!
How adorable is he??
I see this as a large print on a wall in y’all’s house!

I love a smile in between kissed, it’s quite PERFECT!!

And a few images just for Mom and Dad, as I do love to do these at every family session.

Joanna and Corey’s Yorktown, Va Maternity Session l Crystal Reyns Photography

Have you ever felt so much love for your clients? I  think that is the only way to explain Joanna and Corey. I absolutely love everything about them; their laughs, quirks, spunk, and on top of all that their love for one another. Watching them grow as a couple has been such an amazing experience and eye opener on how life should be spent. They love each other fully, and compliment each other to a T.

In learning of this next chapter, Corey wanted me to be on of the first to know so I could open up my schedule to be with them every step of the way, document their life as it takes the next step. During this journey, I learned how hard it had been for them to make this journey. As this little miracle will make his (see gender reveal here) appearance before we know it I wanted to share some of my favorites from their maternity session in Corey’s home town, Yorktown, VA.

I know how much Joanna and Corey wished, hoped, and prayed for this miracle. I asked Joanna to take a dandelion, or two or three, I won’t tell, for this images right here. I wanted to capture exactly what they did before they got a positive sign. And now they only have wishes for Baby Bell. (I’m team Owen)

We started out at Surrender field, where I got to meet some of Corey’s family. I mean why not throw in a family mini while everyone is together right?!?!

The sun may have been hot that day, but in the shade was heavenly.

I am also hoping for a red headed baby, fingers crossed!!

EEEEKKKK!!! I am so in love with her baby bump!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!

Love her red hair!! πŸ™‚

Another thing I absolutely love when working with Joanna and Corey is when I tell them to kiss, they KISS!!
